18 settembre <The reader>  前段看到哭泣的Michael，因为Hanna而哭泣的Michael，他不像一个成熟的人，更接近一个性别模糊的孩子，等到长大后便会日渐淡去对长者的依赖。悲剧中的人悲观地作出自己的选择，活在让人清醒的痛中。
Hanna被诬陷判终身监禁，她一个人，除了工作一无所有，不必为此感到过分难受。统一口径的其他女犯，卸掉了该自己承担的责罚，好象占了便宜。
"Well, what would you have done?"
如果这么问，人其实也会变成那些女犯，埋下头，尽量掩饰。
入狱之后Michael重新为她朗读，她可以给他写信。
处境并不重要，
如果此时生活正是悲哀中的亮光。
